Booked into this hotel after reading recommendations from Trip Advisor and was not disappointed. Location is fantastic (step right outside into the sea of Guangzhou pedestrian traffic, shopping, food etc), staff very helpful, huge rooms. Would definitely stay here again and have no hesitation recommending to others. More

This is my second time in this hotel and I have found that the staffs are very helpful. There was a mistake in my initial bookings (2 rooms) and it was settled very promptly by the assistant manager.A few quirks1) Arrangements for transport were very prompt but the prices are a little high.2) I wanted to print out some documents from the business center but the prices are very high!!! 3) Food in the Chinese Restaurant is so so.... better to eat outside.Otherwise, great hotel and love the location. More

I am an American Chinese and speaks the local dialect. This hotel has the best location in town. I was returning to the hotel after a quick snack and was holding a half finished can of soda. The doorman stopped me from entering because food/drink is not allowed in the lobby, That's fair enough, so I stepped aside and wanted to finish my soda before entering. This doorman then yelled at me to get out of there because I am blocking the hotel entrance. Well, at that moment there is not a soul around and I am standing off the side of the entrance. I must looked like a local residents and this doorman really made me feel unwelcomed and belittled. Hope this kind of treatment towards local residents does not translate to how the local residents looked at the hotel guests. I will probably stay somewhere else next time. Better be more careful than sorry. More

The hotel is located in the old part of town. Great for tourists but may be not for business. Its located in the south west of town which has alot of character. Right next to the famous heritage street. The hotel location is far from Guangzhou East Station (trains to HK) and canton fair ground. The traffic is so bad in Guangzhou, it might take you an hour to an hour and a half to and from these locations (other side of town). The hotel is quite tricky to get to being in the old part of town and you might find more luck pronouncing it as "Shipu" rather than "Shifu"My ICH status entitles me to automatic upgrades but Im not sure if I got any upgrade. I booked the cheapest room and got a large spacious room with no club access nor is it a suite. The room as new, clean and well equipped. Internet was free.The front desk staff were excellent. I think they were imports from HK. However, the backend staff hardly spoke english. I wanted to order a fry noodle with beef which is number 5 on the menu. It took me 5 mins on the phone before the phone was passed onto someone who spoke a little more english. Then it got as close as "do you want fried noodle with shrimp sir?"- damn, that is not even on the menu. My repeated request for number 5 on the menu eventually pointed her to the right direction. My room service breakfast order was just as challenging. I would expect holiday inn to have better staff trained in english skills.I used the business center once for a one page fax to Australia- it was the most expensive fax at any hotel I have stayed at. Totally fleecing. In conclusion, I think this is a great hotel for tourist but not for business. More

I have been staying at this hotel for at least 40 nights a year for the past 3 years and always love this hotel and thought of it as my home away from home.Sadly, since earlier this year, this hotel has signed a contract with the world's leading courier company and now all their transiting U.S. pilots and cargo handler are always staying here in very large groups almost every night. These employees are always in the executive lounge every night without failed during happy hours since it is free alcohol and totally ruined the lounge's professional yet relaxing ambiance. They were loud to the point that I can't get away but hear with crystal clarity their entire conversation including their discussion on their pension, supervisors, and their unions, etc., details that I really did not want to get bombarded with at the end of each very tiring business day.The recent stay in September has gotten worse. Some of these cargo handler probably will never be able to stay at hotel of this kind in the U.S. and act with such stupidity, rowdiness, ignorance and rudeness is beyond belief, they behave like they are at some lowly pick up joint somewhere in small town U.S.A. Two of them were not only drunk every night, they start to sexually harassing not only the girls working at the lounge but my staff as well. They will swear with "F" word, made sexual inference to their sexual organs, and wanted my staff to simulate a sexual act with an alcohol bottle when she was pouring herself a drink. One even attempt to follow another single female traveler to her room, really scared that girl. Both the girls working at the lounge and the two of us felt unsafe and I requested the hotel send security up but the lounge girl was too afraid to call the manager saying she is under strict instruction to be "nice" to these employees since they represent a large corporate contract to the hotel. I was too busy and too tired to find the manager myself so I had to cut short my time in the lounge or make sure a male friend is present with us at all time.A complain to the hotel manager went unanswered of course after I fill out the review & comment card.It is still a nice place to stay because it has such beautiful rooms. But if you expect to conduct any business using the executive lounge or to relax and enjoy in the lounge then you can forget it. I will not recommend paying the extra to stay at the executive room but their other rooms are just as nice.Since the executive lounge is vital for me to conduct my business and a place for me to relax during my long business trip, I will now book elsewhere if the hotel continues to allow these rowdy employees to stay in their executive lounge and allow them to behave however they want.
